Caught the spate well, looks an ancient wood.

Lovely shot Trev. Just the right shutter speed for movement in the water without overdoing it.

David. Its very old woodland and does in places resemble ancient woodland . However, it's not classified as Ancient Woodland as is Wistman's Wood and Black-a-Tor Copse also on Dartmoor and both NNR's

              A fine shot.

I have spent many a happy hour there and later in life with the children.

They only made the walk up to the Durestone once though. I think once was enough for them.

Lucky you Colin, only once. When I was a young Royal Marine Commando stationed at Bickleigh, we had to run to the top of the Dewerstone every week to receive our pay.

My uncle, Terry Stewart, told me the same story. I think he was in 45 Commandos.

I went up a number of times over the years, but it was more of a gentle hike. Pretty sure I could have sped that up for a decent pay packet though!

He would have been in 42Commando at the time if he'd yomped up the 'Dewer' for his pay. I served in 40, 42 and 45 Commando over the years.
