    Catstye Cam

Yesterday I reconnoitring a walk I'm leading in a few months time. Whilst a tad less than 8 miles it did involve some climbing and scrambling. Started at Glenridding I headed towards Lanty’s Tarn (somewhat disappointing due to lack of water) then up onto Birkhouse Moor (2356'), Hole in The Wall, Red Tarn (with the arêtes of Helvellyn behind) then up Catstye Cam (2920') and down onto the main track down the valley past Greenside ex-Quarry and into Glenridding. Weather, whilst dry, was windy and low cloud hid most views. Managed to salvage some pictures in between navigation and making notes.

    1. Lanty's Tarn

    2. Looking back from Birkhouse Moor

    3. First sight of target

    4. Red Tarn (with Helvellyn behind)

The left side arête is Striding Edge the right hand one is Swirral Edge.

    5. View towards Ullswater from Catstye Cam summit

    6. The ex-Quarry at Greenside (now a Youth Hostel)

As usual my 40D plus Marmite lens.

Feel free to point out technical blunders.

Do like lantys tarn, wonder if when you return it will have more or less water in it.

Di - I'm hoping so ... but not too much (as that will mean the entire water system will be more active which isn't good as we have to cross [wade] a few becks). Back in 2009 when I was heading for Helvellyn things were a bit damper.

      1. Bridge yesterday

      2. Compare this shot of the bridge with the one above (taken with G10)

      3. A beck!! Well yesterday this was dry (taken with G10)

I guess Lanty's Tarn was more splendid
