Me thinks you do yourself down. You went out and tried and got imho some nice shots. I personally like number six with the double front on the minster. Granted the tree is in the way...but you can see through it as it is not in leaf. Plus. I think they would frown on you quite a lot if you went with saw in hand.
Came back to add.. other more experienced members will look at the exif information and tell you what to try next to make improvements.

I live near York and we visited the City centre on my son's birthday (15th Dec), you may recognise some places in this bit of video?
