    Weevil

I spotted this Weevil on a leaf along the riverbank.
The closest ID I can find is a Vine Weevil.

Great detail, but honestly wouldn't want to find him in my plants.

Great yet again, how do you get the depth of field so close in? That close I only get around 1mm using the same lens as you @ f8-11

Mike - It looks like you are becoming a macro-master and I am an envious, but grateful pupil! Thanks again for your PM advice.
                    Another great capture.

                    Thanks for sharing.

Vine weevils chew the roots at the caterpillar stage and kill the plants that way.

Definitely want to get rid of them to stop them breeding

                        Thanks wolfy
I did a lot of experimenting and found that with the camera set to M, 1/160@f10, ISO 200, flash set to ETTL +1/3 gives me the best results.
I tend not to vary much from the above settings.

                          Interesting bit of info Brian
Luckily this was shot away from the garden - along the nearby riverbank.

Is this a queen? "Weevil, weevil, rock you, rock you..."

OMG that was a bad joke. Excellent shot, with very fine detail.
