    Horse fly

    Shot at Arne last week. These are about twice the size of say a greenbottle and there are over 20 different species in the UK, this one is one of the Chrysops family

    Both shot with Canon 100 f2.8 LIS

    Stan

    stunning detail - I presume your using ring flash on the 100mm to get such a good DoF? if you don't mind me asking what camera ?

      I presume your using ring flash on the 100mm to get such a good DoF? if you don't mind me asking what camera ?
      no flash just natural light and a 7D

        sorry didn't see the ISO 800 - I've just got a ring flash and starting to experiment with it, it really does transform macro photography

                    they do - we showed it to the RSPB warden and she showed us a very inflamed bite on her leg from one of them

                      Nice shot Stan last time I got bitten by one of those on my ankle myankle and foot swelled up like a balloon nasty little things
