    Keeled Skimmer and a Fly

Shot this morning, unusally with my macro lens as i needed to get close to frame without lots of bits of grass in the way. Luckily she was too interested in her meal to bother about me

Great image Stan - you must have had a bright day to get away with those settings as I know the 100mm sucks in light ;o(

I really don't know how you guys get so close to those things!! I have them flying around the garden all day but they never seem to land, and when they do its for a few seconds and off !!

        Thanks guys

it all depends on which species - darters and skimmers i find are usually no problem as the land on a perch and even if its only for a few seconds, they do tend to return to the same place time and again so you can get ready for the shot. Golden ringed are the same but most of the larger dragons, the hawkers, emperors etc just seem to fly round and round and if on occasion they do decide to land its usually in the middle of a shrub, rarely out in the open.

I'm not sure what type are here other than they seem to take great enjoyment out of bombing you whilst in the pool, some days I feel like target practice LOL

I have a large garden pond which does attract them but other than landing for a few seconds they are never around long enough to get anywhere near them

if they are generally the smaller damselflies or dragonflies, try sticking a couple of perches in the pond where you can get a good shot and once they discover them they will come back again and again and even if they only land for a few seconds you can be set up and ready to shoot
