    Vine Weevil

Having just yesterday evening finished re-potting my Auricular plants and disposing of a couple of vine weevil grubs in that process. Today I lifted a tray of mini plants to put them in a liquid feed and felt this on the underside of the tray.
The adults play dead when disturbed. Now the question is, is it a newly emerged adult from last year, or had it laid a new batch of eggs. Maybe was it just scouting for new places to deliver its eggs. Still after making a few images I'm certain this one won't be causing any more problems in my greenhouse and it isn't playing dead now!!!

    Re: Vine Weevil

Peter, I'm afraid I know nothing of the life cycle of vine weevils, but I know a cracking image when I see one. And that is one. Lovely detail, great depth of field, spot on composition and wonderful lighting.

            Re: Vine Weevil

Thanks everyone, after capturing this image I was checking some pots on the patio. One plant didn't look very fit, on trying to lift the pot by the plant (only a small pot approx 7 inch size) the plant came away in my hand!.
I was left with one dead plant the majority of its root system eaten away, investigating the compost from the pot revealed at least twenty Vine Weevil grubs. Needless to say they went the same way as this adult, their party in my patio pot was the last one they would ever have. But not before I captured a few images. I haven't had time to look at the bug images yet but if they are any good I shall post one.

I've never (knowingly) seen a vine weevil. Though I know the damage they can do. Excellent shot Peter, thanks.
