    Four Spotted Chaser

    A couple of shots taken at Arne last week - different perches over the same pond. 7D and 300f4 +1.4x and around 80% full frame

    Very nice detail I prefer #2as you can see more of the head and eye. The 300 macro wins again

      side on view is much better for the eye detail but the other view is better for seeing the detail of the wings and back

        Two cracking shots Stan, Not sure which is my fav,#1 i like the darker background makes the image stand out a little more.But I'd be happy to get any were near your quality.

          I'd be happy to get any were near your quality.
          no reason why you shouldn't Paul - have you tried using your EF200L, you may have to crop a bit but it would still give you twice the working distance than with the straight macro

            Another vote for number one... not sure why, but the darker background seems to make it more colourful...plus I like how you've got the light just catching the wings here and there...

                      Its one lens I've not try for close ups, I've tried the 100-300mm but i shake all over the place.
                      I'll have a go one day,Just looking at each lenses mim focus distance Sigma 300mm 1.8m--- EF200mm 1.5m.Whats the shortest range with the EF300mm

                        Whats the shortest range with the EF300mm
                        the min distance is the same at 1.5 metres. Although these shots are using the 300 plus converter, last year I did use the 300 on its own for both butterflies and dragons last year and the 300 and I think you 200 would be OK with extension tubes - see the experiment i did the other day
