    Book Recommendation

    Hi

Can anyone recommend a good pocket guide to British insects, also one for butterflies and moths

    Thanks

Hope someone can come up with an answer for you. I confess I know nothing... I've only recently discovered... via this site...that theres such a thing as red tailed bumblebees. and learnt that "you learn something everyday."

For insects - Collins Complete British Insects, also includes butterflies.
        http://www.amazon.co.uk/Collins-Comp...9459588&sr=1-1
I also have A Photographic Guide to Butterflies of Britain and Europe vwhich is a handy size to carry around

As something a bit lighter than a book I carry Fold-Out-Charts which slot into my camera bag. See FSC Publications ... whilst some may view them as a 'bit simple' they have their use in the field. Once back home ... I agree with the above in that the Collins books are very good.

+1 for the FSC guides. They are excellent things to keep in you camera bag due to their lack of weight.

For a more detailed guide, I think "Britain's Butterflies" (ISBN 9781903657300) from Wildguides is excellent... better than the Collins guide in my opinion

I got the Colins which is very good - but then I am after all insects.
