    Deer - Bushy Park

On Saturday I went to Bushy Park with a friend, and it was the perfect time to try out the 1.4xIII extender I bought recently.

All the images below were taken with my Canon 100-400mm lens with the 1.4x extender fitted...

There are some compromises in using the extender, the AF zone is reduced to centre only, the f-stop at maximum zoom is raised to f8 and AF is a little slower in low light.
But it works well and does give the extra reach sometimes wanted.

For me it meant I could get closer to the deer without closing in physically, this was helpful as the deer were a bit skittish and we did not want to get too close.

The image quality was pretty good and I've not noticed much if any degradation, any noise I noticed was probably down to the light and ISO settings.
So overall I am pleased with the 1.4x extender, it would not be a default option but it gives options when needed.

As always any comments or feedback are welcomed.
    Andy

Thats a good set and the 1.4 extender has worked fine. If you havw enough light then f8 is the way to go anyway. I always try to shoot around that level if possibe

        Thanks guys.

Yes, your right in this instance f8 was probably the way to go anyway. I just need to remember that in the future as a limit of this combination in other scenarios, but don't see it as a big problem.
To be fair the detail was pretty good as I had to remove lots of flies from the images in Lightroom.

I have a 100 - 400 and tried the 2x lll ext but did not work No Auto focus and very poor quality images Was advised on the forum that tele conv did not work with this lense but your shots are not to bad.

Cheers James and Ian, Thanks for looking.

Ian the 1.4x converter works well, I went for this as I had read the 2x loses AF and did not fancy that. AF with the 1.4 was ok.
