    Red Squirrel today

Our first day of the new season on Brownsea today and we were not disappointed. We had at least half a dozen reds running around close by and had to give up after about an hour when they cleaned out our nut supply. This was one of the last shots, no nuts, as he just sat and watched us. A full frame shot with my 70-200 f2.8 and 1.4x, 3 metres distance and completely out in the open, no hide or blind of even hiding behind a tree

Lovely shot Stan is there a specific organisation you visit the island with or is it just a turn up kind of thing?

              Cheers guys

good use of light which has given great detail
this is the ideal time of the year to visit as the canopy is wide open and add the bonus of some sunshine meant I could get shutter speeds up to 1/1000 and shoot at f 7.1 where often I am down to about 1/200 at f4 and ISO 1600

is there a specific organisation you visit the island with or is it just a turn up kind of thing?
just an ordinary public day - the islands is only open at weekends for another couple of weeks and then open daily. We discovered the best place to see the squirrels about 3 years ago now, so we just go prepared with a bag of hazelnuts to encourage them to stay around once we spot them

                          Re: Red Squirrel today

That is an excellent shot isn't it.
I've only visited Brownsea the once and on that occasion I saw one squirrel briefly and rattled off a couple of quick shots, neither of which compared with this
I heard the tip of providing a nut supply recently and shall try this when I next visit the island, certainly worked well for you, well done
