    Badger (Male)

Taken at my woodland sett, this I believe to be the father of the cub I posted previously. It is the dominant male within the group.

Thanks Mark, Paul, Tom, the bracken beginning to start taking over surrounding the sett, so leave them to it until the autumn.

              Agree a nice image.

Had a family group scare life out of us at Minsmere. Had been taking pics a dusk and on way back to cottage on path through woodland. They ran across the path about a yard in front of us. In the near dark it was a bit of a shock.

Thanks Stan, ant. They are an easy creature to photograph once you know a sett. You need to forget the camera for a few nights just watch and observe, which entrance they are using, what time they are emerging, they are creatures of habit - a few peanuts is like gold dust to them! In my younger days I've sat out all night, but now my own badgers come out at a respectable hour - in daylight, knowing there's a spreading of peanut butter on the logs. Flash is OK but needs a lot of setting up to get any quality pictures. I used to use three large Sunpak 5000 units plus a slave for background fill-in. That was in the days of Kodak Kodachrome you considered yourself lucky if you got three decent shots out of a roll of 36.
