    Elk Stag

    Been to Yellowstone National Park.

Massive place and lots of wildlife and scenery to photograph.

Just started processing some of the images, this elk was enjoying the early morning sun whilst keeping an eye on his harem

                  Thanks all for kind comments.

Definitely worth a visit Chris. Certainly wouldn't visit in height of summer, late September/early October should be good for elk rutt. Crowds a lot less though 'bear jams' still happen. Happen when someone spots something, elk, bison, moose, wolf, coyote, etc and stop on road. Everyone else stops and there is no way through, get told off by rangers if nearby. West Yellowstone a good base.

Travelling round is generally slow, only few roads and low speed limits due to animals. Getting there a bit of a long journey but worth it. Also worth planning trip south to Tetons too.
Entrance to park is quite cheap, Yellowstone only is $30 for 7 days or $50 including Tetons. That's for vehicle, doesn't matter how many passengers.

Those look so much like Red Deer don`t they . I am quite shocked how good some of those look , for a cropped sensor camera at those iso`s . Wish I had your processing skills / technique . Most impressive .

Beautiful shot. Every element in that picture works toward the final image. That is a wall hanger!

                        Re: Elk Stag

From what I understand elk and red deer were considered to be one species, though elk is larger. Work was done looking at mitochondrial DNA and they are now listed as separate species.

Nothing too special about processing touch of noise reduction and bit of sharpening. About to process some shots of moose that were in woodland very early in the morning, ISO up at 16000. Not too sure how these will turn out though.

Thanks Colin, spent more than 2hrs stalking this male. Was a surprise when he settled down. Got other images of him just looking to the left and whilst good they don't have the impact of this image. Thought it looked good at the time.
