    African Elephant

    Taken at Mala Mala in the Sabi Sand, South Africa. He was drinking on the other side of the river when he decided to cross, so I continued to photograph him with a 70-200 zooming back as he approached. When I couldn't zoom back any further I took the camera from my eye and came face to face with him. I could almost reach out and touch him. I along with my partner and step-son spent the next 10 minutes watching as he fed on vegetation next to our vehicle. An amazing experience.

    EOS 5D3 with 70-200mm f/4L IS lens.

    Thanks for looking.

      Great shot Brian. I had a similar experience to you, to the extent that you could count his eyelashes! As you say, an amazing experience.

        Hi Brian; a great experience... we've been lucky enough to be up close & personal with wild Ellie's a few times... you need to be aware & careful, but as long as you're not in their direct line of travel they're normally quite docile preferring just to get on with the business of munching...
        Cheers;
        Lee

                Certainly a classic pciture of the African Elephant. It shows it's large ears which is it's significant feature in comparison to Indian/Asian elephants which have to smaller years. A very nice photo with a lovely BG.

                      Thanks guys. It was quite a sobering experience but our guide knew what he was doing and as long as we didn't do anything silly we were not in any danger. Just sit there quietly and enjoy the moment.
