Both images were taken at Mala Mala in the Sabi Sand, South Africa. You'll see that the young male has an acacia spine in the side of his nose, which I only noticed when I processed the image. These spines are pin sharp and as they feed on acacia I assume it is a regular occurrence and will work its way out over time.
Both images EOS 1DX with 300mm f/2.8L IS lens and 1.4 III converter.
