for most of the morning there were no squirrels playing in the woodland but there were 2 or 3 in the churchyard, where apart from a lone peacock there was no trouble. Closer to lunchtime, the squirrels started to come out in the woodland and thats when the peacocks turned up en masse bringing with them the juniors from this year and seemingly teaching them too how to be a pain in the butt Of course people can be a problem too. A friend and i were baiting a particular log and it was quite obvious what we were doing when a guy, didnt even have a camera, came along with a large bag of hazelnuts and proceeded to put piles of them on every available log all around, with the result that when the squirrels came there was too much choice for them and many a time they missed us out

Great pity that Stan. I can't understand why they have to have all those Peacocks there, it seems to be a thing at a lot of National Trust properties. Its not like they are a native species - might as well have Grey Squirrels over there.
As for feeding the Reds on mass, that's doing nothing for the squirrels, in fact could be doing harm - Peanuts! You could have a situation in years to come when they look to the public for a food supply. Baiting the odd log and tree, Yes but not putting the stuff down everywhere. I must take a trip over there next week.

at least he was using hazelnuts as there is nothing worse, both for the squirrels and photography than peanuts - in a shot they look aweful. The guy was using shelled hazelnuts which meant that rather than grabbing and burying, they were sitting and eating so even though I was annoyed i did get up and take a few shots
