Re: Red Squirrel, Brownsea
Thanks Stan, Bill, Tom, Brian for your feedback.
With regards the leaf litter. Let me say right away I'm not being critical of anyone on this site.
However what criteria dictates a wildlife picture.
Is it that Red Squirrel sitting on a branch with a nice blue sky behind it or the green of the OOF canopy behind it, with every hair and whisker on the creature in sharp focus -- agree it would be a lovely shot. To me, and I've taken such shots if the circumstances have presented themselves, they are what I term 'Field Guide Images'. Nothing wrong whatsoever with them.
On the other hand do you present a picture of a creatures going about its business in its natural habitat such as I've put up - a Red Squirrel seeking out food amongst the leaf litter - this to me is a wildlife shot. Had a Fox or Deer been standing there instead of the squirrel would it be acceptable.
As previously said I'm not being critical of anyone and I sincerely hope no one will take offence of the above. Its something I've been asking myself for quite a while -- What is a Wildlife Picture.Trev

Re: Red Squirrel, Brownsea
I like the shot and agree with a lot you say Trev, though I think it's fair to say the leaf stuff does detract from the animal which is of course the most important part.
I take a lot of Hare shots with them looking at me through blades of grass, I quite like them like that and as you say it is how you see them, but some don't like it, thankfully I think there is room for both schools of thought
