    Grass Snake

We were walking back to the car park at RSPB Arne last Sunday when I spotted a few feet in front of us on the road what looked like a large worm. As we got closer it became obvious that it was in fact a snake, no more than about 15 cm long and under 1/2 cm in girth - was in fact a very young grass snake who although moving all the time hung about long enough for a few shots. The sighting really made our day

      Nice shot Stan
The one and only time I have seen one was while visiting friends in St Neots.
We don't get Grass Snakes up here in Scotland.

                Stan.

Yep, usual standard maintained, so well done from me! I've never seen a grass snake... just thought I'd mention it.

                All the best, Mike.

                  Thanks for looking all

Blimey Stan did you get down for a belly shot?
not quite only crouched down I think but I was using my 300f4 and 1.4 converter so I had a good shooting distance away from him and a shallow angle.
Love the bokeh, really enhances the shot
the background is just a gravel road which again emphasises how small he was

Didn't you see them at BWC Mike.......actually neither did we this year

formidable photo! Beautiful composition and focus and shot from below makes it very dynamic.

                    Bravo :-)

                    Hello and see you soon.

Now that is a great shot!! I'm pretty sure if I ran across a snake no matter how big, I'd either miss it completely... or run the other way.

Hi Di, you and many other people.
There was a time when i would not have wanted to be up close to one but a few years ago whilst in Morocco I was persuaded to have my photo done with one draped round my neck, I never touched it though but since I have been up close to corn snakes on a couple of occasions and was persuaded to touch one - and what a revelation, not much different to touching your pet pussy cat
