    Roe - Mum & Daughter

Last night in the woods taken from the ATV in failing daylight just before 8pm. Not easy to get woodland shots of Roe Deer, but they are more tolerant of me if I'm on the bike.
This is the doe with her last year's fawn still in tow. (fawn in the foreground) Doe a bit soft but as I said was struggling with light using the 100/400mm with the engine still running - its like sitting on a vibrator - meaning one of those things they tamper down the roads with - a vibrator !
They are starting to moult out, you can see the summer coat appearing around the head and neck areas.

Well caught Trev. Excellent eye contact. I assume that if you turned the engine off they would be gone.

Another great image Trev, not sure that I know what it is like "sitting on a vibrator".

I don't think it relaxes them they do not associate it with danger - it don't move around on two legs! When they are in the field I can drive up to within 12 feet of them on the ATV. Bit more difficult when they are in the woodland, but they do accept it in part.
If I open the gate and walk into the field, they move. If I have the ATV, engine running and open the gate, they stay put!

I used to do the same with the Badgers, but no more, If I were passing the Sett on the ATV I would throw a handful of peanuts down for them. It got to the situation, that whenever they heard the ATV they would come out - not natural behaviour. Plus we had them coming down into the garden area feeding from under the bird feeders - not good.
