    Roe Buck & Doe

These two were charging around the field, the buck with one thing on his mind, the Doe more interested in having her breakfast. Roe Deer mate at practically any time of year, there being no firm gestation period, the same for Badger's and Stoat's - a process known as delayed implantation.

Well captured as usual Trev, does the fact that they mate anytime of the year mean that the horns on the males are not as important as those of Red Deer in attracting the females?

Correct David. Despite when they mate they always drop their fawns in April early May.
PS. Enjoy your time in the Big Apple!

Great picture and great knowledge of your subject.

                      Thanks Colin, Alan, much appreciated.

Alan. I'm a great believer in having an intermate knowledge of my subjects - their lifestyle and behaviour. Sadly I do not think the birth of the digital camera did anything for our wildlife, everybody now seems to be a wildlife photographer without any knowledge of the subject. Even manufactures now list their lens as good for wildlife. In the past I've met a photographer out on the heathland in the middle of January looking for Nightjars and another searching the undergrowth in the middle of a summers afternoon looking for a badger, he was under the impression it was the size of a mouse. Now it seems it's the 'shot' that counts to hell with the welfare of the creature or habitat.
