Lovely shot Trev, they seem too engrossed in foraging.

This is the problem Bill, no food no badgers. Unlike foxes etc. you don’t bump into badgers. You have to ‘set up’ at the sett or set up a feeding station like above. They are very much creatures of habit, shots become very repetitious. At the sett you got them just coming out of a hole. At a ‘set up’ they got their snouts to the ground.

Still with all the above it is a great shot and well done you for setting it up. I used to have 4 or 5 come in our garden when down south, only trouble was they turned our garden into a latrine , digging 2 foot holes and filling them. Mrs M not happy.

There’s so much information in a badger latrine David. Not only can you find what they been feeding on, giving an indication of where they have been. You can also build up a picture of the local badgers social structure - families. Some years back I did an in-depth study of the badgers living in a certain area. This was done by placing food at various setts baited with micro coloured beads. I then recovered these beads from the numerous latrine pits around the area. I was able to build up a picture of each social groups foraging area. One particular group were travelling up to two miles from their set each night. Not every bodies cup of tea I know but I do like to know my subjects.

Can you put the food on top of the logs, you might lucky and get one facing you.

They had already licked the honey off the logs

SWMBO was not happy with the latrines, let alone me going through them, but what great research Trev. I was aware that ours came from well over a mile away, just knew where the good food was.
