Clicked on to see a larger image but flickr states "Oops! You don't have permission to view this photo"
Looks interesting but a larget 800 x 533 would be better.

I know this rock face very well,in South Stack. Without a longer lens, the birds are difficult to see, on my monitor. If you are really into bird pics, I would certainly suggest a longer lens such as the Canon 100-400mm or the 70-300mm. Due to health restrictions for me, I now use a prime 300mm lens + 1.4 TC which gives me a reach of 420mm plus the crop factor of 1.6 which gives me an effective reach of 672mm.

Thanks for all your comments. It's quite a daunting prospect to post for the first couple of times!
Hereford - you should be able to access the larger image now.
Nathaniel - quite right, i realised I needed a bigger one when I got home and saw these 'nearly' shots of a stonechat and a meadow pippit.

I need to polish my technique of course, but i do need more 'reach' as well.

Hi! Jeffo40. I am glad that you now understand where I am coming from. Like you, I first took only my 70-200mm lens on my first visit and the birds looked far too distant. Taking advice from other more experienced members, I knew that if I was to make any head way with bird photography ( a very interesting field), I had to have a longer reach. Atleast, now I know with the 300mm lens plus 1.4TC. I have the reach and the equipment I can comfortably "carry", without a tripod.

One thing is that on this forum the experienced members are only too will to help novices and near novices with their know how and expert advice. So do not feel apprehensive in asking any questions, even stupid ones, and someone will give you the right answer.

Best of luck next time round when I am sure you will be better equiped with the right lens.

          Cheers
