Last one is a red shank.

Nice set Nat, I like #2 & #3 but all are good.

thanks Tom/Stephen. Noted the ID. Any idea why it is called the "Red Shank", when I cannot see much "red" in the bird?

Thanks Stephen. To me this looks like the real "red herring" i.e I cannot understand why and where it got's name/ Anyway, I am noting the details in my little "bird" book!

Thanks Mike. the day was great because not only did I have the "master" giving his comments but it was a beautiful day as well- a combination that was "failure proof"!

Nathaniel, we talked about nailing the exposure, making the histogram you friend, understanding what the histogram should look like with regard to the tonal range of the shot. You have taken all that on board and totally nailed it. Furthermore, we know that it must be right in the camera as you don't do Photoshop.

Must have been that beer with lunch.

Thanks Colin. I do some minor adjustments in PSE such as cropping, bit of sharpening & other little bits, to make the picture look "OK". Anyway, I am glad that my TIA has not affected my retentive powers and I can still absorb the teachings of the "master"!

The Beer was a "poor man's fare ", on this occasion as I was looking for something much more stronger! A good wee dram would have helped me to take better shots of the "kingfisher". However, I have now booked on another wild life cruise on the Mersey Estuary and Bay on 15th August. Hopefully Mickledore will be joining. I will make this known on the "Events" thread.
