All three are great shots, the 1st is my favorite.

Good clean well focused shots. I wish the one in my garden was a bit more co-operative

About 18' away? Are these cropped? I am just wondering about the 400 f/5.6 myself.

It would have been #1 but the tail isn't quite right (??) .... so #2 gets my vote.

Many thanks to all for the comments and for looking.
Pictured from about 18 feet and cropped but not to much.
I have been very, very impressed with the 400mm 5/6. Just 3 drawbacks you may want to consider before parting with cash. 1. The obvious at 5.6 it is a slow lens, it needs good light. 2. Equally obvious, no IS. This can be a problem. 3. Closest focus is 12.5 feets. Little birds will always be little unless extension tubes are used. In stating the above I have really been pleased. The lens is one of the sharpest I have used. Colour and contrast brilliant. Would I buy one again. Yes without reservation. Unless, of course I had the cash for the 500mm f4.
              Cheers

Would back that up Treff - use the 500 f4 now but the 400 f5.6 is a cracking little lens, sharp and detailed (needs good light obviously) and very portable. With it being so small I never missed IS
