Eurasian Bullfinch, Pyrrhula pyrrhula - Male

Eurasian Bullfinch, Pyrrhula pyrrhula - Male - Gavin Hamilton by GavHamilton, on Flickr

Just trying to get out for a few shots, good to have a tree about 10 steps from the back door.

Sorry I've not been around much. Sadly the ankle surgery and carpal tunnel surgery have both been unsuccessful, so have to wait and see what happens next. I hope to be shooting a lot more in the future!

I like the composition of this image, the colors are vivid and tin bird is nice and sharp.

Nice pic but a tad under. The purist amongst us, I'm not one, like a plain background so the attention falls upon the subject. You also need to get a little closer which I think is going to be difficult because of your surgery. Hope things get better soon and you are out and about. Enjoy your photography, that's the main thing. Good luck.

talking about me Treff but this is another of those birds i dont have a clear sshot of, so for starters i would be more than happy with it and of course with gavs current mobility difficulties

Thanks Treff appreciate the feedback and the critique.

By under do you mean under exposed or I wasn't on the same plane as the bird? Yes getting closer is a bit difficult, but I look forward to doing so when things pick up, from where I set up in the garden I've got a Dogwood on one side and the Crab apple on the other. Both very busy with branches.

I'm a landscape photographer as my trade, but really love the bird photography and enjoying getting to know it and learning the birds. Shocked when my friends that have lived here in the UK all their life say things like "but British birds are drab, why would you want to photograph?" I find them exciting and full of colour!

I think the first image is better than the second one. Nice colours of the bull finch against a busy background. You need a lot of patience with small birds, with the foreground branches in the way I don,t think you have been given the opportunity to get a great shot.

I have been a bird watcher for years and never even seen a bullfinch let alone photograph one, so thanks for sharing.
I would have been chuffed to get an image like that.

Yes think it's a tad underexposed but it's all a matter of taste..........I think. No Stan, just saying in general and getting to know a few of the specialist togs down this way with regards to our feathered friends. Hope your well on the mend now kiwigav and soon you will be creeping up on the little b---gers.

Next year I'm going to cut the front branches off to try and give me a better chance :D

Thanks for all the feed back.

My wife laughed when I told her about not being close enough, she's a portrait photographer and I have a habit of not getting close enough with people too, she's always making fun of me when taking peoples photos for taking the lens out as wide as possible.

As for injuries, managed to get a landscape yesterday, which I was happy about, been too long. Meant I had to walk up stairs to get it, very happy with that progress!
