    Heron in Waiting

    This is from some castle grounds near Ravenglass in Cumbria, there is an owl sanctuary nearby and the people throw some dead chicks out a certain time. The herons know this and fly up from the estuary about a mile away. This one Heron was ready and waiting to pounce onto a free lunch.

                    I looked at this at work and the greens looked too bright but the work monitor is rubbish. Now looking at home I think they are still too bright and a bit of desaturation would make it much better

                              I like this a lot. When I lived in S. Wales I often saw herons at ground level fairly close up (wasn't a photographer then) but only ever saw them in trees at a considerable distance. Nice to see one in this environment.
