      Well done Nathaniel.

Lapwings are quite scarce and there are a couple of Shellducks amongst the Oyster Catchers.

Thanks Tom,Colin for taking a peek and for your comments. The Lapwing seems to be a "resident" there as I saw it on my previous visit as well. So this was a bonus for me. Yes, Colin, I thought the two who did not obey the "look right" command were shell ducks but was not sure,as I have not seen them in this particular RSPB reserve. You have anyway, confirmed that they were shell ducks.

        Nat

P.s. as a point of info to the members, this was the first time I used my lens with the lens coat and I must say that the lens was quite "warm" and nice to hold esp in the blustery wind, whistling through the "watch windows" in the hides.

Really? On the moors near Blackburn they are exceedingly numerous. Too many to bother about taking a shot - as common as pigeons in town!

They cause a stir amongst the local birders on the South Coast.

Really? I've grown up always knowing they were around. Just one of our ordinary routine birds along with robins, blackbirds, blue tits etc. They really are that common round here.

Lapwings are no where near as numerous these days. I remember large flocks in fields etc.

There is a field close to where I live where several pairs return every year to nest.

It looks like summer has arrived at last as I saw 2 swallows this lunch time (Saddleworth near Oldham) though I guess they are already present in the South of the country.

Well done Nat, better Lapwings than I've ever got. They always seem too far away whenever I see them!

The Lapwing has been at that same spot now since the 13th April and I know the reason why- to locate a place to lay her eggs. this is borne out in my latest posts.
