    Chaffinch

I had a little while to spare yesterday and the sun was shining so I set my camera up on the tripod, sat it in the back garden pointing at my dead branch and then went indoors to drink a cup of coffee and wait.

This little fellow sat and posed for me and just as I was begining to get some pictures my wife et al came home and I had to pack it all away

    Damn I dropped it

Is that a shutter I can hear???

    both taken with 5D3, 400 f5.6, ISO800, 1/500, f8 fired by a cheap Yongnuo radio trigger

Beautiful and sharp. Love the deep dark colors of the OOF Background that helps give the bird depth and really make it stand out Ian,

I have never sried this out as we dont get any birds in the garden but the focus on the branch has worked well

                As above, especially Tom's comments!

Great shots, very sharp, and great contrast with BG. I would try this but I don't have a well used perch available!

                  Re: Chaffinch

Thanks Alex, Mike the perch is one of 3 old tree branches that I 'planted' in my garden in places that I thought the birds would settle on and also in positions where I can place my camera on a tripod to get a shot of the birds and have an OOF background. It has taken several months to get it to the point where the birds are now happy sitting on 2 of the 3 perches.
