Love the way the tip feathers bend.
Sharp and showing the wonderful colours.

Now THAT is a rockin shot, 'just' on the edge of over processing (starting to get a halo on the edges) but I think personally - you got away with it. Fantastic timing, how about some info on camera / lens / settings etc

Very good shot, excellent timing. Love the spread of the tail feathers, and them catching the sunlight on the edges.

        Well done, Mike

P.S. Agree with David - shot details would be good!

I've tried to capture the Kites when they swoop in low and failed miserably.
You have captured a superb image.

I think it was more luck than judgement, when the Kites are crossing in front of the camera it's very difficult to get them in the frame, and always get lots of duffers with just tails or half the bird in the frame, so was very pleased to get this one.

I think bird photography of any kind cannot be truly appreciated until you go out and try to capture that same bird. It's only then through your failings that you can appreciate other peoples work more. I've never tried to catch any bird of prey in flight and never got close enough, however, like Alan says apart from getting tails and stuff I can imagine it being very difficult.
