    Redshank

On Thursday MicroWyred and I spent a couple of hours in the Concrete Hide at Upton Warren. It was a dull ‘BIF 1,000 x 1,000+’ afternoon and not much was moving. Time flew though as we chatted to Bob, one of the regular Upton Warren birder/photographers. After he left we decided to try the Flashes. Our luck changed. The clouds rolled back and the first bird we saw when we got to the Avocet Hide was this Redshank …………. the next 2 hours flew by!

Great pic. A little oversaturated for me, but well done.

Thanks Andy. The image is straight from the camera - no exposure etc adjustments at all. It had been a windy and dull afternoon then around 17:00 hrs the sun came out and the clouds disappeared ..... and the Redshank appeared!

Contrary to popular belief, "straight from the camera" is not the be-all and end-all. Such pictures are perfectly capable of being over-saturated, as well as too light / dark / under-saturated. If shooting in RAW, especially so.

I'm not saying this is anything less than a good image, just that tweaking isn't always a bad idea.

I understand what you mean Andy. But the image is a pretty accurate depiction of the conditions. The sky was cloudless and this is what has given the water the Mediterranean effect.
