Great images John.

I like the second one best, but you have a processing problem with the tail feathers - your "selection" has left sharp edges on out of focus feathers.

Thanks for your comments - I have looked carefully at the original image for No2 - this was processed in LR5. I can see what you mean, but when I zoom in on the original before any processing etc - the out of focus tail feathers are just in front of the edge of the fork in the tree - the edges of the tree are sharpish and the space between them is the distant background. I could blur the edges of the tree by the tail feathers.

My processing was to sort out the WB, and to use the radial filter in LR5 to desaturate and desharpen ( if that's a real word) the tree and the background to make the owl stand out.

Yes, but not sure on timing yet. Mrs C has a hair appointment in the morning so I have to work around that. I suspect lunchtime to early afternoon.
