Saw this bird yesterday evening on the roof top, could someone tell me what this bird is?

We see very few starlings these days in my part of the world. They used to be very common. They are under-rated from a colour point of view. In the right light they are iridescent.

Nice shot and agree a very under rated bird although. . . . . we have a mob that you don't see for ages until we fill the bird table / suet feeder, then we have on average 20 - 30 that literally swarm in / devour / and then vanish.

Starlings nowhere near as common these days. The autumn swarms use to be spectacular if some what messy, if you know what I mean!

The image is probably a juv judging by the plumage. Interestingly our breed population largely goes south for the winter and starlings from Russia/Scandinavia tend to come here for the winter.

Not meaning to 'hijack' your thread but remembered I took a couple of shots of some of the mob through the conservatry window.

Love the 'arrow head' markings and the shimmering blue / green / purple colours

Sorry again for the hijack, just thought I would show a couple of different views for you
