    Re: Kestrel - Male

Trying to get a shot of a Kestrel yesterday perched on a road sign, I can honestly appreciate these shots more. I shot at first from quite far away and it wasn't close enough. I drove in the autohide slowly but closer. Parked up and with the window down already I slowly got the camera and tried to get a closer shot. It just flew off in the other direction lol

Had similar experience with a Hobby on Orkney. Perched on a fence at side of road too far away to make a good picture, drove closer, window down, lift camera to eye and it flew off only to land on fence another 20-30 yds away. It did this 4 or 5 times before making off altogether. Didn't get a shot and never had chance to photograph once since.

          Trific shot Stan.

We actually had one in the garden last year - the cats took one look and ran indoors!

Of course he flew off before I could bring my camera to bear.

They are a lot smaller in real life than I gave credit for. Buzzards do that to me all day long Stan. They are my unicorn.

More that got away then !!

With the sparrowhark, it was a few weeks ago when i was at Stanpit March near the waters edge looking at the waders when i glanced to my right and sawa a sparrowhark come out from behind a bush, so close that I could not get him all in the frame - then just walked away from me a few feet before flying off into the distance never to be seen again
