    Very nice. Lovely sharp image.
Being critical (overly) its a shame about the stray grass over the right hand one, buts that unfair as its out of your control.

I for one are really impressed with the files coming out of the MKIII. Normally if I had to go above ISO800 my heart would sink. I got that same feeling earlier with the 1D but when I got back to the office and loaded the pics, I swear I couldn't believe it. Moved the NR slider in LR to +5-+8 and it just vanished.

Starlings are great wee birds. When you take the time to watch them you can see so many colours. Better than watching sparrows or something lol

A bit of a strange composition as odd numbers seem to work better than even and the right hand starling a bit close to the edge of the frame. Good colours and clean background but sort out the stray bits of grass, paricularly the one that appears to be growing out of his neck

it wasn't meant to be a shot where composition or bits of stray grass count it was really intended for the benefit of paul who is a week behind me with his new camera to show what it can do at higher iso's .i think we are now both converted .to the 1d system

Crikey thats a crop? Great result. I've gone through the manual lightly. Was surprised to read that only horizontal lines on af points are operable with lenses f/5.6 or slower. That sounds bad but i cant say i noticed lol i do wish i still had my 70-200 2.8 mkii though.

Missing a zoom will come quicker i think.

the standard settings in the main menu are just a case of checking ,things like switching off focus beep etc ,the ones in the cf menu you must get right or working how you want it to at least ..i can't really fault it yet could do with a 500mm f4 now though i think

Nice details, I think Starlings are very under rated birds.

That's a lovely example of what the 1D can do.

This is giving me even more confidence loss in my 7D But I still can't decide if the best swap would be to follow you guys into the 1 series or go 5D3. A used 1D4 is about the same price as a new 5D3. There's a lot of contradictory advice out there.
