    Finches and friend

    A number of finches decided to visit this morning. I tried out my camera on my new tripod, which seems very sturdy, and took their portraits. All photos taken on the Canon 70D with the 400mm f5.6 lens. Shutter speeds 1/400 and 1/500 for the last one. ISO 400.

    First we have a Chaffinch...

    I couldn't resist this one, I've called it "Its behind you!"...

    And then a more unusual bird popped by, we don't often see these in our garden. I believe it is a Greenfinch...

    Nice set Carol, but the 1st image tops them for me.

        Hi Carol;

        Three great shots there... I like the 'ominous' nature of #2

        Your greenfinch appears to have some real old gnarly legs... a bit like mine

        Cheers;

          the first male chaffinch looks really good but not too keen on the second - he is overpowered by the oof corvid

            Some nice detail. Believe your greenfinch is actually female chaffinch.

                Re: Finches and friend

                What really makes the first shot is the low view point and oof background. It's also very sharp. Canon's 400mm f5.6 lens is one of their best. If you're going to continue using that site you may want to consider trimming the grass.

                    Re: Finches and friend

                    Ooops, sorry about the wrong identification of the female chaffinch. Thank you for all your comments. My favorite was the first shot, but the second made me smile. :) Yes, Brian I see what you mean about the grass, and will give it a manicure. :)

                    I have just bought a bird table to encourage more birds into the garden.
