I had thought they were pure black but the light has hit him in a certain way to bring that out

There's colour in all the corvids I think if you get them in the right position...

Excellent shot... great detail in the feathers...

For big birds, they're all (corvids) incredibly fearful, survival instinct I guess!

at Marwell they are quite used to people and picking up scraps from the tables. The shot is almost full frame @98mm and this one, a bit further away @ 190mm

              Really like first image.

Corvids are very adaptable birds and will tolerate people where food is concerned.

Nice! Rooks/Crows (in Sri Lanka) are regarded as "sacred" birds as they are free scavangers- like the vultures in Africa- clearing up all the rotted and rotten stuff. But they are also very cunning and known to carry off shiny objects, known to attack small children if the kids have some food in their hands.

I dont get an offer of correction either - my main problem is not with spelling as such - the D and F are no longer very clear on my keyboard and i often get them mixed up.

but did not offer the correct spelin
(computer voice)...."the correct spelling of spelin is spelling"

One last one, which i think shows up the colours even better

They remind me of starlings with how they have "hidden" colour.

I always remember once on holiday one came near some cafe tables, I was surprised at how big they are and how fearsome the beak looks.

The colours in the 1st image are terrific. It's a pity about the change in the background cutting through the bird. Now if you could substitute the background from the 2nd image into the first you'd be cooking with gas!

two different birds shot only a few metres apart but the slightly different directions made all the difference to the background
