    Wigeon

The discovery hide at the WWT Centre at Barnes is becoming my second home! The reflection of the reeds makes for a great background. 1DX with 500mm f4L IS lens and 1.4 converter.

    Thanks for looking.

An "on golden pond" shot, the reeds really do make for an excellent background

Which hide were you in - I cant recall the discovery hide and are you sure its a widgeon - just looks so different from the illustration in collins and the RSBP website

I think it's called the Headley Discovery hide. I thought it was a wigeon but I'm open to suggestions.

I thought it would be the Headley hide, with all those comfortable chairs you could spend hours in there as we have fone in the past to get shots of the bitterns

I am not 100% sure it isnt, just doesnt look like i would have expected a female to look

              Possibly a juvenile Pochard.

                    Correct.

It is a juvenile female and just starting to show the lighter patch each side of the eye. Although the juvenile Wigeon is similar in appearance, it has a much more delicate beak and white patches under the tail.
