    NZ Birds Part One

Not in my comfort zone with birds, but I thought I would post this for comments.

I have a number of other images of New Zealand birds, this is the first that I have processed. When I get some time I will sort out some more images for posting here, hence the "Part One" in the title. I have this species name recorded in a very safe place (The Brides diary) sadly currently I can't get at it to give you an identification, but....hopefully someone will be able to identify the species?.

Just a grab shot really, when I took the image I thought the parents were playing with a leaf!

    Exif: 5D3, 70-200 @200mm, ISO 100, f5.6, 1/160sec

Seen a lot of these in Menorca and Majorca, they are purple swamp hens or as you say in NZ "pukeko, which is a name derived from the maori language

Looks a lot like a purple gallinule though suspect local species.

Very strong composition. You didn't say where it was taken. Very similar to a purple gallinule. Probably a member of the rail family.
