Maybe all the years of actually having to work paid off today. I sat for 5-10 mins before he landed on the perch. I sat for two hours waiting for him to come back though lol

            Excellent shots

Assume quite big crops given you have lost the apparent extra reach of the crop factor

I'd say there was about 20% off. I measured roughly 12ft from the perch with my footing. I wasn't sure how skittish this one was so kept the hide in the long bush and grass out of the way.

I thinks these are your best kingfisher shots well done Paul. Keep this location to yourself unless of course I find myself in your neck of the woods at some point in the future. lol

Cheers guys. f/8 is a must for birds in general I've found if you can manage it. These were taken at ISO800. Not that you'd think it lol

The use of higher ISO is one thing I'm looking forward to when I get a 5D3. 60D can get a bit noisy at 800.

Don't get me wrong there was still some noise in the shadow and OOF areas. Quick addition of +5 in the luminance area of LR Noise reduction and it was gone, however, it's the colour reproduction and capture at those high ISO that sets the 5D3 apart from the rest I've had. Usually with High ISO images the colour just gets washed away.

Noise is always an issue but guessing FF sensor and in camera processing help to control this at a somewhat higher level than I'm use to.

Might just be my perception but images certainly seem to have a quality look.
