    Thats a nice set.
When I look on Flickr they look like they could benefit from just a touch of noise reduction, thats maybe a bit picky though.

Nat is correct the male bullfinch has a rose coloured breast. Bird in pics does seem to have some hint of pink so possibly an immature.

nice set nat your now firmly caught in the bermuda triangle ,your getting the close shots you wanted ,if you continue to shoot in j/peg you lose a lot of what you have gained ,if you reduce noise in a j/peg it effects the overall i.q ,if you shoot in raw and layer the bird reduce background noise etc then sharpen the bird its gonna take time up . you might also have to buy a recent version of elements and learn how to do it properly .

                  Re: Bullfinch- female?

Thanks Ant,Bill and Jeff for taking a look. The Bullfinch is about the ugliest bird I have seen- look at the third image. The face is like a bull alright!!!!
One needs far more patience with little birds as they never sit still.

                    Re: Bullfinch- female?

Know what you mean Nat, the smaller they are the quicker they move don't they, as I'm finding. Used to stick to swans and ducks in the past which were much slower and easier to photo.
                    Not bad pics tho

                        Re: Bullfinch- female?

Again Nat you are getting some really great close up images but these are noisy, I note that you were at 3200 iso with 800th shutter speed and thats starting to get excesssive for a crop camera but workable on a full frame in good light, you could have dropped to 1600 and got 400th for a static shot in theory, Jeffs right in what he says and seeing as you have got this far with your quality of images then I would go the raw route

Thanks Gord and Tom for taking a look. As the light was not too good, I used auto ISO. Yes, could have dropped the TV a bit but I like to keep it at the focal length of the lens (672mm). I have reduced the noise via PSE. Still getting used to the lens & Camera combo.
