Lapwing about to lay her eggs
are you sure ? - looks more like she has returned from stretching her legs and resume her position on the nest

Again, although not so noisy as previous, they are oversharpened and shooting into the light has left the birds in shadow.

Thanks Stan. She was making her nest to lay her eggs. I was watching for some time. Very often what I see as an interesting image or a pose is a battle against the "light".

Thanks Tony. It is always a matter of luck. I do not go out to take the classic shots with a plain background, sun shining behind you etc, but more interested in the unusual and different types of poses and images. As they say, photography is "each one to his own"!

sorry nat but i,m with stan on this ,its to far on for it to be laying eggs ,they will have been hatched by now .its just taking a rest or acting as a decoy from marauding black backed gulls etc to protect the chicks .observe there reactions if another bird flies close

Sorry Jeff. I actually saw the Lapwing burrowing into the soil to lay it's eggs. No other birds arround. Heres another picture. It was this unusual sight which made me watch, wait and take the photograph.

Re: Lapwing about to lay her eggs

your missing the point entirely nat .i doubt it would have laid eggs in such an exposed spot ,its imho to late in the season for egg laying anyway .and without actually seeing eggs in the nest its pure wishful thinking on your part . .

AND its also fairly unusual if unknown for a MALE BIRD to be laying eggs ,nat the female has a mottled black and white breast ,milords i rest my case LOL WHOOPS

Certainly looks like male to me too and I'd also say its probably a bit late in the season for laying eggs, though not impossible, and nest location does tend not to be exposed.

Nat, just for info lapwings often roost in a position that is very similar to that when incubating/brooding. You'll see them do a shuffling tail up movement to settle down.

Thanks Ant. It was this shuffling, tail up moment which I saw before it settled down. The location too was not very exposed. Never seen one in that position before.
