Black Winged Stilt

Taken during our first hide session at Zimanga in South Africa. It was taken late in the day as the sun was starting to set.

EOS 1DX, 300mm f2.8 L IS II lens, 1.4 III converter, tripod mounted. The hides at Zimanga are all equipped with tripods fitted with gimbal heads. They are also on wheels, which took a little getting used to but were very effective for framing shots.

Think the permanent Birding hides could learn a lot here in the U.K from those in South Africa , most the local ones to me are to far away from the birds , and offer real bad light from where they are positioned ....Looks like you get a nice low viewpoint as well ? Another cracking photo by the way .

A real standout photograph. Lovely light, background, pose and narrow depth of field.
