I view on a 15" laptop screen so I wonder if you are viewing on a larger one, the halos don't show up as much ?

Have to agree with Stan here. I've got 10" iPad and 27' iMac and they both show halo on top of head and back of both birds. Same when you look at them on Flickr.

I've noticed that if you upload an image to Flickr and then use a smaller size of it from Flickr, it can create halos on the smaller derivative image when you post it on a forum.
Not sure if that's what you did with this one Steve?

It may be worth trying a full size from Flickr with a Flickr downsized to see what if any difference it makes

Re: Adult and Juvenile GC Grebe

yes steve the halo is definitely there on both birds ,when i upload to flickr my photos are resized in p/p to 1024 pixels on the longest edge and when downloaded from flickr again there downloaded at 1024 pixels size .
this saves flickr messing with your photos to save themselves space .the only exception to this are square pics at 950 pixels or letterbox panoramic at 3000 pixels to fill the screen side to side ,but they always come out smaller on here anyway
