    Another good capture. Might be worth a quick mention why you are referring to this bird as ring tailed for non birders.

      sounds right ant ,the female hen harrier has a white banding on the tail this distinguishes it from the female marsh harrier which is a similar sized bird

        Also sometimes applied to juveniles too which also have the banding, both sees.

                Agree with Tom. OK shot. Not enough detail even for your Sigma!!!!!!

                  I was so shocked to get one this close nat ,that I completely forgot to apply exposure compensation thus the original raw files were to dark to start with .i have done my best with the shots but that's it ,they do look better on Flickr though .normally these birds are just a distant speck on the edge of the marsh .even the guy I was with who had a 1dx2 and a 200-400L with the built in t.c did exactly the same as me and got no better results despite having around 12 grands worth of kit.
                  What you have to take into consideration with these type of shots Is the rarity value as well ,I have never got closer than a mile to one before ,and the male bird I have never seen before .worth posting just for that ,not exactly easy like a lapwing
