      How do you get close enough to one of these??
      EOS 6D, 6D Mk II, 80D, 70D, 100D, 200D, M50, M100.           A very good shot of a very elusive bird. I presume the bird is in it's autumn/winter plumes!

            Patience in this instance Richard , I knew there were a couple of them in the foraging around as I had heard them when approaching the edge of the woodland. I positioned myself against a tree trunk with the sun shining onto the trees from behind me and then just stood and waited patiently until one of them hopped onto the branch infront of me and snap , but having said that they are very wary birds and can be difficult to get close to.

                don't want to spoil your thread steve ,but it prompted me to have a look at some of my old jay shots ,heres one from 5 years ago when i was using a 50D and 400mm f5.6 ,makes me wonder if we have actually moved on or not ??

                    In the first instance I thought; the bird is over-sharpened. But that is not it; did you blur the background?

                          My guess it`s noise reduction that has caused that look ? I would tone down the brightness a little if it were mine Steve , but such a hard bird to get , and it`s a nice photo , well done .
