    Popped down to Farlington Marsh today to see if I could spot a SEO. I saw two. Once when some dog walkers put one up, but he dropped down again pretty quickly. And this guy - a massive crop from several hundred yards away, and oversharpened I know - but it's my first ever Shortie.

      well done russell ,shorties are always distant this time of the year ,as it gets colder they tend to get bolder .after a few weeks they realise we are not a threat and fly right at you .
      been shooting them for a few years now so got to know there habits well.

          Thanks for looking & commenting Nat, Jeff and Antoeknee. Yes the Kingfisher was a real bonus, I'm quite pleased with that.

          Interesting update on the behavior of the SEOs, thanks Jeff. I'll obviously need to return in a week or two.

                I have said elsewhere , it`s not always about the perfect photo , you obviously had a very nice day , sometimes just seeing stuff should be enough , but you got records of it too , and every time you go back to these photos they will remind you of it , so worth keeping in my book .

                  Agree with Jeff on the Shorties they are addictive , will be off down to Bristol in a few weeks to a place they frequent every year in good numbers so fingers crossed, Great Kingfisher shot too.
