Sorry Stan that background and shadow does the shot no favours.

        Re: Chaffinch

Obviously a sunny day so shadow is very harsh. Background looks ok to me.

A good shot ,nice pose ,catchlight etc but from my point of view rather lacking in detail in the feathers

            thanks for looking guys

Sorry Stan that background and shadow does the shot no favours
nothing wrong with the background Dave, it is natural and a combination of clear sky and trees/vegetation in the far distance

Obviously a sunny day so shadow is very harsh
don't get too many of those John so make the most of it. As the shadow is not over the bird at all and only on the branch I don't think it too much of a problem. However I have just noticed the growth on one foot, a common problem with the chaffinches at Blashford and had I noticed that at first I probably would have deleted the shot anyway

she heard that and that's why she is sticking her bum out at you

Why on earth would you delete the shot because of a small growth on it's foot, I find that bit strange. You're not seeking a master race of chaffinches are you ?

its a common bird and I have loads of much better shots of both male and females so no point in clogging up the hard disk but of course it is quite a nice over the shoulder pose
