    Re: redshank

Most obvious thing is shoot at f8 it's the optimum with most sigma lenses ,also are you moving the focus point with the joystick to keep focus point on birds eye .its hard to be specific without knowing where the focus point is ,if your using Lightroom you can get a free plug in to show focus points .there are to many variables that only you will know so more info would help ,I.e focus point ,hand held/ tripod etc ,raw of j.peg, what p/p system

Looks if the focus point is somewhere in front of the bird. As Jeff hinted would need some further info to give more positive feedback.

Some info on the shooting settings would be a start, how many AF points were in use to start with.
      Canon 5D3, 7D2, 60D, Canon 70-200L f2.8 IS II, Canon 300 f4L IS, Canon 16-35 f4 L, Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, Canon 1.4 MkIII extender, Sigma AF 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM, Sigma 150-600 Contemporary, Tamron SP AF 70-300 F/4-5.6 Di VC USD, Canon EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS

How far away was the bird when you took the shot and is this a big crop ?

Worth noting , you can check the focus point in Canon`s own DPP software that came with the camera .
