    Tree Sparrow (I think)

    Hi All,

Not that much into trying to shoot birds so a bit hesitant to put one on here, but despite the errant twig I quite liked this little chap or chapess who alighted on a bush reasonably near me whilst out looking for hares, not 100% sure what sort of Sparrow it is to be honest.

Definitely a Tree Sparrow Paul , they have a chestnut cap as opposed to a grey head on the house sparrow and also they have a very distinctive black cheek patch which is absent in the House Sparrow , looks like it was a nice bit of light to shoot in and a shame about that twig across its body.

Not sure how you have sexed it Stan as both male and female are virtually identical ?

I was thinking along the lines of the house sparrow where the female is much lighter than the male but have checked in the book, tree are different in that male and female are very much alike

Very lucky to get that , even House Sparrows around my neck of the woods have almost disappeared .
