bit tight in the frame but good detail but these are always better when the light is such that you can bring out the red in the eye

I agree , it`s a bit tight in the frame for my tastes , the colour on water looks nice , I wonder if it`s worth trying to lighten it up a touch more , and did you get the full reflection of the Grebe ? Still a nice photo all the same .

If this is a raw image ,you should be able to selectively lighten the whole head area and apply a spot extra to the eye

yes its better but you have lifted the whole picture ,whereas in reality its only the head and eye that needed work ..do you have or use photoshop or elements trev,had a play for you as a example ,this is a direct upload rather than going through flickr but i'm sure you will follow the giste,

which hasn't worked oops will go via flickr instead

via flickr also provides a demo of the difference between direct upload and flickr !!!!
